Custom Plan Reports

Prerequisites

You should have completed the Headers & Footers and Graphs exercises in this section.

Objective

In this exercise, you will customize a plan report.

 

Facts

Start the Tax Planner and open the plan you saved for A Couple, Basic and Average (A Couple.pl5). Create a plan report and add the US Total Income, Wage Income, and Business Income worksheets to it. Arrange the report so that the Business Income page prints before the Wage Income page. Save it as "Tutorial," then preview your plan. After you are finished, open the Customize Plan Report window and delete the custom report.

Program Considerations

The Customize Plan Report window is where you can customize the print order of a plan report and determine which worksheets or other documents you want to include. The following describes the functions available:

How?

To create a custom Plan Report:

  1. Start the Tax Planner program and open the sample plan (A Couple.pl5).
  2. Click Customize Plan Report on the Reports menu.

  3. Select US-Condensed in the Select Plan Report list.
  4. Expand the items in the Print Order list by clicking the Expand button.

  5. Check US Total Income, Wage Income, and Business Income in the Print Order list.
  6. After you click Business Income, click the Move Up button until it is above the Wage Income page.
  7. Click the Save As button.
  8. Enter Tutorial as the name of the report.

  9. Click OK.
  10. Click OK to close the Customize Plan Report window.

To preview the Plan Report:

  1. On the File menu, point to Print Preview and click Preview Report.

  2. When finished, click Exit on the File menu to close the preview.

To delete a custom Plan Report:

  1. Click Customize Plan Report on the Reports menu.

  2. Select US-Tutorial in the Select Plan Report list.
  3. Click Delete.
  4. Click OK to close the Customize Plan Report window.

Review

You should have successfully setup a custom Plan Report and previewed it.

Troubleshooting

Problem: I don't want to have to preview the entire report to see what just one worksheet will look like.

Solution: You can preview the current worksheet by selecting Preview Current Worksheet on the File > Print Preview menu.
