Modifying Existing Plans

Prerequisites

You should have completed the Creating a New Plan exercise in this section and saved the sample plan. It will be used in this exercise.

Objective

In this exercise, you will learn how to modify plans and set options.

 

Facts

Start the Tax Planner and open the sample plan (A Sample.pl4). Enter your Preparer Information in the Options, open the sample plan, and then make the following changes to the plan type:

Plan Options
Plan Type Difference Analysis
Years and Cases
Beginning Year 2005
Number of years 4
State Information No State

Program Considerations

How?

To open a plan:

  1. Start the 2005 Tax Planner program.
  2. Select Open an existing plan, highlight the file, and click OK.

    Note: If the Don't show this dialog box again box was checked, this will not appear when you open the program. If so, click Open on the File menu.

To enter preparer information in the Options:

  1. Click Options on the Settings menu.

  2. Click the Preparer Info tab.

  3. Enter your information and click OK.

To modify the plan type:

  1. Click Plan Information on the File menu.

  2. Change the Plan Type to Difference Analysis and the Number of years to 4.

  3. Click OK.
  4. Click Close on the File menu.
  5. When prompted to save, click Yes.

Tips & Shortcuts

Review

You should have been able to enter your preparer information in the options as well as change the type of plan for the sample client.

Troubleshooting

Problem: The firm name in the options is not correct, how do I change it?

Solution: This information loads with your Preparer Information disk. You can update the program with your latest preparer disk by clicking Update Preparer Information on the Tools menu.
