Sticky Notes (Forms)
PrerequisitesYou should be familiar with or have completed the Sticky Notes exercise and the Viewing Forms exercises. ObjectiveIn this exercise, you will use Sticky Notes as a part of the on-screen review process. FactsAdd a sample client, view forms, and add a note. Place the note near the taxpayer Social Security number field on Form 1040. Make this note client specific, and have the note text serve as a reminder to verify the taxpayer's Social Security number. |

Program Considerations
You can use Sticky Notes as a beneficial tool during the review process. You can use them as reminders for follow-up items or for communications between yourself and anyone else who is reviewing the return. You can also use Sticky Notes as documentation items when used in conjunction with Audit Checks .
How?
To create a Sticky Note:
- View the desired form.
- Click the Sticky Notes icon
on the toolbar. - Drag it to the desired location.
- Release the mouse button.
- Type the text of the note in the Add new note box.

- Check the Client Specific box to make the note client-specific or uncheck it to make the note global.
- Click OK.
A small icon
appears where you placed the note.
Tips & Shortcuts
You can put Sticky Notes on a form by clicking the secondary mouse button at the desired location and selecting Add Note.
Review
You should have a note near the taxpayer Social Security number field on Form 1040 for the sample client. When you point to this note, you should see the contents of the note you typed.
Troubleshooting
Problem: The note does not appear on the form where I typed it.
Solution: Make sure you click OK after typing the text of the note. If you close the Add new note box by clicking the X, your note will not be saved.
