Jump to Input
PrerequisitesYou should be familiar with or have completed the Viewing Forms exercise in this section. ObjectiveIn this exercise, you will use the Jump to Input feature to reference multiple inputs for a line item on Form 1040. FactsAdd a sample client and view the forms for this client. Jump to the input for line 7 of Form 1040. |
Program Considerations
Jump to Input allows you to reference form output to detail input. If there is only one input field that affects a specific line on a form or schedule (i.e., line 20a, Social security benefits on Form 1040), you are "jumped" back to that detail input field automatically. However, if there are multiple input fields that could affect a specific line (i.e., line 7, Wages, Salaries, Tips, etc. on Form 1040), a hyperlinked dialog is displayed. Click any of the links to jump to that detail input field.
How?
To use Jump to Input:
- Click the Forms tab.
- Point to line 7 of Form 1040 and click the secondary mouse button.
- Select Jump to Input on the pop-up menu.

- The program opens a dialog containing hyperlinks to the input fields that affect this line on the form. Click any of the links to jump to the related input field.

Tips & Shortcuts
Items with amounts listed as <Calculated Value> come from either multiple input fields or have data that may not be directly represented on the form.
Troubleshooting
Problem: Nothing happens when I select Jump to Input.
Solution: Your pointer will appear as a black check (as it does with Audit Checks) when you are correctly pointing to an item. Otherwise, you are not pointing to an applicable area of a form or statement.
