Detail/Forms Split View

Prerequisites

You should be familiar with or have completed the Wages exercise in the Individual Return section of the Tax Returns tutorial and the Viewing Forms exercise in this section.

Objective

In this exercise, you will use Detail/Forms Split View to view input and output simultaneously.

Facts

Add a sample client. Open Screen 10, Wages Salaries, Tips and view the output simultaneously. Use a Single taxpayer with wages of $125,000. Use Detail/Forms Split View to view the wage input and page 1 of Form 1040.

Program Considerations

While viewing or editing client detail, you can create a new view in which to display the forms for the return.

How?

To use Detail/Forms Split View:

  1. Open the desired client by clicking the Detail tab.
  2. On the View menu, click Detail/Forms Split View.
  3. An additional window displays the first form applicable to the return. A Forms tab also displays among the lower tabs.

To view a different form:

  1. Click the lower Forms tab. The program displays a list of forms in the Form list.
  2. Click the desired form to view.
  3. Click either the window or the lower tabs to move between the client detail and the forms.

To close the Form view:

  1. Click the Close button in the upper right corner of the Forms pane.

Tips & Shortcuts

You can open the Form View by clicking the Forms View icon on the toolbar. The Forms tab remains in the lower tabs display until you click the Clients tab or exit the program. You can click the lower Forms tab instead of the upper Forms tab as a quick way to view forms.

Troubleshooting

Problem: The form is too small to read.

Solution: Use the Zoom In feature to enlarge the form.
