Program Considerations

How?

To enter client data and designate the type of electronic return you're preparing:

  1. Click the Add a client icon in the toolbar.
  2. Enter "TUT-EF1" for the client number and click OK.

The program opens Screen 1, Client Information.

  3. Click the drop-down arrow in the Electronic Return(s) field and check the Federal box.

This designates the client file as an electronic return. If there were state returns being prepared, you would check the boxes next to the states that you intend to e-file.

  4. Enter the information from the Client Information table above.
  5. Click the Contents tab.
  6. Under the Income section, click Wages, Salaries, Tips.

  7. Enter the information from the e-file W-2 Info and Wages tables above.

  8. Click Electronic Filing (W-2) in the section list.

  9. Verify that the information from Screen 1, Client Information has been "pulled" into the Employee Information (Mandatory) fields.

  10. On the Income pull-down menu, open Pensions, IRA, W-2G.

  11. Enter the Payer's name and pension information from the Pensions table above.
  12. Once you have entered the pension information, click Electronic Filing (1099-R, W-2G) in the Section list box.

  13. Enter the applicable e-file pension information from the e-file Pension Info table above.

Tips & Shortcuts

Review

You should now be familiar with the additional input needed for an e-file return and have an e-file sample client with wages and pension information entered.

Troubleshooting

Problem: The Wages table doesn't have a control number listed, but there is an input field for it in the Electronic Filing (W-2) section.

Solution: Not all W-2's contain this number. Leave this field blank if this information is not available.
