5 Simple Rules to Get the Most Out of Your Search Results Ask IVA

Intuit's in-product or online support options (i.e. Intuit Virtual Agent (IVA), Live Community, etc.) include search functionality to help you find answers faster.

There are 5 simple rules you can use to get the most of your search results:

  1. Simplicity is key. When entering your search terms use concise, simple words and keep in mind that the search engine typically uses all words that you enter when searching the database.
  2. Consider what you're likely to find. The search is performed by a program designed to match your search terms to terms used in the articles of the results. Consider the types of results you may get to help you determine what your search terms are.
  3. Less is more. The more search terms you use, the fewer results you will receive. Remember that the program is attempting to match all search terms entered so that the more words you use, the more limited the results of your search.
  4. Descriptions can help. Just as when you're attempting to describe something to a person, a few descriptive words can help make your searches more successful.
  5. No need to punctuate. Search engines do not use punctuation to find answers so there is no need to include it in your search terms. If asking a question, you can omit the question mark and the search still works.
Examples:

Instead of Use
How do I electronically file form 5405? efile form 5405
How do I claim residential energy credits on form 5695? entering amounts for form 5695
How do I send a PDF with my return? attach a pdf to an efile return
How to report a 1099-A? report 1099A

Certain Returns Filed with the Lacerte Program Prior to the March 17, 2010, Release Assumed a Portion of the “Minimum Tax Credit Carryover” was from the 2006 Form 8801

1040 Returns Filed with Form 8801: Certain returns filed with the Lacerte program prior to the March 17, 2010, release (version 30.0317) assumed that a portion of the “minimum tax credit carryover” (Screen 39, Code 30) was from the 2006 Form 8801. Consequently, the refundable tax credit may or may not be correct. We believe this issue will likely affect less than .5% of the total returns filed. This issue was resolved in the March 17, 2010, release (version 30.0317).

On March 25, 2010, an Internet Update became available to help you identify which returns may have been impacted by this issue. Download and install this Internet Update, if you have not already done so. For more information, please view the KB Article.

New York Fiduciary E-File Mandate Exception

New York Fiduciary: New York has issued a mandatory e-file requirement for all return types filed beginning on January 1, 2010. Lacerte does not support 1041 (Fiduciary) e-filing for TY09. There is an exception for the e-file mandate for 1041 customers for TY09. If customers have purchased software that does not support e-filing for 1041, they will be able to still paper file this form for TY09. For more information, please view the KB Article.
